The Bondij brand was launched in the late summer of 2010 when designer, Dionne Richards of Boston, MA started to see the peak of interest in her designs through using her close girlfriends as her muses in the fashionable nightlife scene. It became a ritual that for each event that was attended a new well designed and detailed piece matched the occasion. The eye-brow raising signature pieces started with the BONDIJ jackets, form fitting denim with a circus of heavy embellishment to the shoulder pads includes metallic spikes, pearls, shiny chains, three dimensional flowers and other attention grabbing add ons. The Bondij brand is dedicated to catering to the new aged fashion forward individual that craves the specialty one of a kind, edgy and creative designs and has no limits or rules in this fashionably democracy.

Bondij Spring/Summer 2013 Collection at Caribbean Fashion Week 2012.

Designed by Jamaican native and long-time Boston resident, Dionne Richards, Bondij by Blond Di has been on the Boston fashion scene for two years, creating buzz throughout the city with the brand’s signature distressed and embellished denim pieces. What began as Richards customizing denim pieces for friends and family, has grown exponentially as the designs are now incorporating ready-to-wear pieces that are being embraced by Bostonians and celebrities alike.

While Bondij by Blond Di was created in the summer of 2010, Richards and the Bondij team are officially launching the brand this summer, with Caribbean Fashion Week kick-starting the events leading to the launch party and a runway show, which is planned for the end of June. “Even though Bondij has been in the Boston fashion scene for almost two years now, during that time, the main focus was dealing with creating my own small business, but now that we are on track, the brand can continue to concentrate on the creative aspects,” said Richards.

Showing the latest Bondij by Blond Di Spring/Summer 2013 collection in Jamaica is especially close to Richard’s heart, who is from Jamaica. “My designs have definitely been influenced by my upbringing in Jamaica, as they combine a carefree spirit with an edgy attitude, which reflects how life in Jamaica is,” said Richards. With the Bondij by Blond Di designs having a distinct tough and rebel edge to them, there is still an element of ease felt by the wearer knowing that one only has to don a Bondij design to turn an outfit from something simple to a conversation starter.

Even with so much planned for the summer, Richards has already been planning ahead into the fall, which not only includes designing a new collection, but also expanding the brand’s reach to New York. Having recently been picked up as a featured designer label at legendary costume designer Patricia Fields boutique in New York, as well the hip Harlem Haberdashery boutique, Richards also hopes to show during New York Fashion Week in September. “While we may not be showing at Bryant Park or Lincoln Center just yet, I have a feeling it won’t be long until we do!” said Richards.

Blond Di’s vision for her company is to continue to push ordinary, mundane fashion to the edge! Bondij by Blond Di keeps you chained to the pulse of fashion. “Being a slave to fashion never felt so good”.
